Russian Federation Begins Using Out-Of-Date Aircraft As It Loses Fighters At An Alarming Rate
CRIMEA - Approximately 24 Su-35 aircraft have been lost during the special military operation in Ukraine, resulting in the Russian Federation resurrecting old and outdated fighter jets, according to a social media post from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In his Post, the Ukrainian Brigadier General stated that Russia will now turn to older Su-24M bombers as a replacement.
In an update from the Debka File, as many as 13 aircraft were just lost in a surprise attack in Crimea on August 11th, which brings the grand total of lost fighter aircraft to 47.
In mid-July, Ukrainian forces announced shooting down a Su-35 near the city of Nova Kakhovka, which a video was shared widely across social media. It is unknown if the pilot was able to eject, as the plane crashed and exploded on impact.
In the aftermath of the explosion at the Saky airbase in Crimea a few days ago, satellite imagery started flooding social media which displayed 9 more aircraft that were lost in the explosion, including Su-30SMs and Su-34s models. Another aircraft was lost that day, in the direction of Zaporizhzhia.
The Founder of Bellingcat (an OSINT investigation team) Eliot Higgins, stated this in a series of tweets:
"I can't think of a time Russia has lost this many air assets in one day in recent memory... One way to interpret those craters is precise strikes from a long-range munition,... [the craters are] about 20-25m wide... which would mean a pretty big munition."
Though Kyiv has not claimed the responsibility officially for the attack at the Saky airbase, an advisor to the Ukrainian President stated Ukrainian partisans, behind enemy lines, could've been involved.
The Kremlin insists that its special military operation is still going as planned, despite recent setbacks such as its tactical regrouping to the east and its loss of aircraft, throughout the war.
Defensive aid, received from various places around the world, specifically systems such as the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), has presented Ukraine with the ability to change the course of the war. Many billions of dollars have been poured into Ukraine as the world watches it defend itself in the forms of military and humanitarian aid.
There have been multiple attacks and explosions behind the lines at various Russian bases, and the numbers continue to grow, including inside the borders of Belarus, which as of yet is not an active participant but allowing the use of its bases by the Russian Federation, according to The Guardian.
