Ukraine: 10 Iranians Killed After Iran Sent Drone Instructors To Region
UKRAINE - 10 Iranians who appear to have been instructing Russia how to use their Shahed-136 kamikaze drones were claimed to have been killed in Ukraine, according to a Ukrainian official who spoke to Israeli KANN news.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has claimed that Iran is allowing Russia to use its drones in Ukraine so that Iran can test the drones out for future attacks on Israel.
"Today hundreds of Iranian drones are undergoing 'test runs' on our land, killing civilians. These drones were not intended for use against Ukraine. To have a strategic advantage over its enemy, Israel should conduct a 'test run' of its air defenses Ukraine is the best testing ground," the Ukrainian Defense Ministry stated.
The statement was put out on the same day that the United States confirmed that Iran is not only selling its drones to Russia, but sending Iranian military personnel to Ukraine in order to help Russia use the drones the country had given Russia.
Ukrainian Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid also spoke together regarding the cooperation between Russia and Iran.
"I spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and informed him on unspeakable suffering, loss of life, and destruction caused by Russian missiles and Iranian-made drones".
"We discussed in detail Ukraine’s request for Israel to provide air and missile defense systems and technology," he added.
During an interview with RTVI news, Laid said, "The relations between Iran and Russia are a serious problem not only for Israel but for Ukraine, Europe and the rest of the world. The fact that Russia is using Iranian UAVs to kill Ukrainian civilians is unacceptable.”
Ukraine has requested that Israel send air defense systems to aid it in defending against the Iranian drones, requesting the Barak-8, Iron Beam, Patriot, Iron Dome, David's Sling, Arrow Interceptors, as well as support by Israel regarding training to operate them, but Israel refused.
“Israel will not deliver weapon systems to Ukraine due to a variety of operational considerations," Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Wednesday, but added. "We will continue to support Ukraine within our limitations as we have done in the past.”
He also said, "We will continue to support Ukraine within our limitations as we have done in the past. We have asked the Ukrainians to share information regarding their needs and have offered to assist in developing a life-saving, early-warning system.”
US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price put out a statement on Thursday saying, "We can confirm that Russian military personnel based in Crimea have been piloting Iranian UAVs and using them to conduct kinetic strikes across Ukraine in strikes against Kyiv, and in recent days we assess that Iranian personnel — Iranian military personnel — were on the ground in Crimea and assisted Russia in these operations".
Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby also said, "In light of Russia’s ongoing supply shortages, we are concerned that Russia may also seek to acquire advanced conventional weapons from Iran, such as surface-to-surface missiles that will almost certainly be used to support the war against Ukraine".
"Tehran is now directly engaged on the ground and through the provision of weapons that are impacting civilians and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine — in fact, that are killing civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure in Ukraine," Kirby added.
Pentagon Press Secretary Brig.-Gen. Pat Ryder had stated on Thursday, "Iranians have been on the ground in Ukraine to assist Russia with the drone operations there."
White House National Security spokesman John Kirby also said that Iranian troops were sent to Ukraine to help assist Russia in operating Iranian-made drones that Russia had reportedly purchased from the country.
"We assess that Iranian military personnel were on the ground in Crimea and assisted Russia in these operations," Kirby stated.
"The systems themselves were suffering failures and not performing to the standards that apparently the customers expected," he added.
When asked how many Iranian troops were in Ukraine, and why they were there, Kirby stated, “I don’t have a number […] What we do know is there’s a relatively small number that are."
The Ukrainian National Resistance Center claimed on Wednesday that Iranian instructors were teaching Russian forces how to launch the Shahed-136 Kamikaze drones in territory within Ukraine that Russia had annexed.
Ukrainian Ministry Of Defense Statement On The Iranian Instructors In Ukraine
"The Russians took Iranian instructors to the territory of the temporarily occupied Kherson Region and Crimea to launch Shahed-136 kamikaze drones. They teach the Russians how to use kamikaze drones, and directly monitor the launch of drones on Ukrainian civilian targets, including strikes on Mykolaiv and Odesa.
The instructors are based on the premises that the Russians seized during the occupation.
It should be noted that Iran officially denies the supply of drones to the Russian Federation, which it actively uses in the war, attacking Ukraine. But, as we can see, Iran helps the aggressor not only with equipment but also with people.
We will remind you that the Russians place their military equipment and personnel on the territory of schools and hospitals, using children and patients as human shields."
