14 Rockets Fired At US Embassy In Iraq

BAGHDAD - 14 rockets were fired at the U.S. Embassy located in the Green Zone in Baghdad, Iraq on Friday, according to both U.S. and Iraqi officials.

The "Green Zone" was a 10-square-kilometer heavily fortified international zone in Central Baghdad that was taken by U.S. forces in April of 2003 at the time Baghdad was captured.

Many of the buildings and facilities have been turned over to the Iraqi government. It is still hosting embassies for the United States, Britain, Australia, and Egypt. 

The attack on the U.S. Embassy is believed to have been carried out by an Iranian-backed militia, an embassy spokesperson said, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack on the base.
