TOKYO - Chinese and Russian bombers both flew together over waters surrounding the Japanese islands, causing the Japanese Self-Defense Force to scramble fighter jets in response, according to the Japanese Ministry of Defense.

The Chinese and Russian bombers did not violate Japanese airspace, but the move caused Japan to lodge complaints to China via diplomatic channels as Japan views the flights of the military aircraft as provocative.
