IAEA: Powerful Explosions Near Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant In Ukraine

The IAEA experts said they were informed that two drones were intercepted and shot down about 5 kilometers (3 miles) and 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) from the site.

KYIV - The International Atomic Agency (IAEA) has reported "powerful explosions" near the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant in Ukraine which shattered "many windows at the site" and cut off power to some of the off-site radiation monitoring stations.

The agency cited IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi as saying that the incident highlights "the dangers to nuclear safety and security during the ongoing military conflict".

The agency released a statement that said their experts stationed at the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant reported that air raid sirens went off at 1:26 am local time, followed by "two loud explosions" later that morning.
