LOS ANGELES — On June 6, 2025, ICE launched coordinated raids across Los Angeles, targeting areas including Chinatown, Paramount, the Fashion District, and downtown. According to a DHS statement dated June 7, 2025, these operations resulted in the arrest of 118 individuals, among them five gang members with criminal histories such as drug trafficking, assault, cruelty to children, domestic violence, robbery, and alien smuggling.
An additional 44 arrests occurred on June 7, totaling 162 for the week, as reported by Homeland Security Investigations. Protests erupted immediately, with demonstrators blocking ICE officers and rallying outside federal detention centers.
The Metropolitan Detention Center, designed for 100 detainees, held 200, leading to overcrowding and limited access to food, water, and medical care.
On June 6, David Huerta, president of SEIU California, was injured and detained for obstructing federal agents, with his arraignment set for June 9, 2025.
