Iran Denies Involvement In Attacks That Killed 3 US Service Members In Northeastern Jordan
The attack also injured 34 other service members, but US Central Command said the number may fluctuate as service members continue to seek follow-on care.
JORDAN - After three U.S. service members were killed in a one-way UAS drone attack by Iranian-backed militants on a base in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border, Tehran released a statement saying that Iran had nothing to do with the attacks.
A spokesman for Iran’s United Nations Mission in New York spoke to the Wall Street Journal paper and said, “The conflict has been initiated by the US military against resistance groups in Iraq and Syria; and such operations are reciprocal between them”.
What is an unmanned aircraft system (UAS)?
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, “An unmanned aircraft system is an unmanned aircraft and the equipment necessary for the safe and efficient operation of that aircraft”.
A one-way UAS, or drone can be fitted with explosives and directed at a target before the explosives are detonated once the target is locked and the appropriate distance between the drone and the target is acquired.
