Statement from Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III: Today, at President Biden's direction, U.S. military forces conducted necessary and proportionate strikes on three facilities used by Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups in Iraq.
Rocket Attack Against US Forces In Syria, Israel Kills Senior Iranian Advisor In Missile Strike
AL-OMAR - A rocket attack was carried out against U.S. forces at the Al-Omar oil field in the Deir ez-Zor province in northeastern Syria. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq is an underground Iranian IRGC-aligned group in Iraq. An Israeli airstrike is also reported to have killed senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) advisor Sayyed Razi Mousavi.
These precision strikes are a response to a series of attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-sponsored militias, including an attack by Iran-affiliated Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups on Erbil Air Base earlier today, and intended to disrupt and degrade capabilities of the Iran-aligned militia groups directly responsible.
