Reports On Africa Region

Following an attack on the presidential convoy in Mogadishu, for which Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, Somali security forces implemented a response. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud subsequently traveled to the front lines in Hirshabelle to consult with military personnel and evaluate the ongoing efforts against the group, known by the Somalian government as "Khawaarijta".

Somalian Ministry of Defense: “H.E. President Hassan S Mohamud, while on the frontlines, met with the commanders leading the liberation operations in Aadan Yabaal. The President received a briefing from military leadership and praised the heroic forces defending Somalia’s sovereignty against Khawarij terrorists. His presence underscores the government's unwavering commitment to total victory in the fight against terrorism.

H.E. President Hassan S Mohamud held a meeting with the Somali Air Force operations command to assess the successes of recent airstrikes targeting Khawarij hideouts. The President commended the precision strikes that have crippled terrorist networks and disrupted their attacks against the Somali people.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing, equipping, and strengtheningthe Air Force to sustain these critical operations. For the first time in decades, Somali pilots are leading and executing airstrikes against terrorists - a historic milestone in Somalia’s defense capabilities!”
