Powerful X-Class Solar Flare Erupts From Sun, Strongest Released Since 2017

SPACE - A powerful X-class solar flare erupted from the sun on December 14th, 2023, the largest solar flare to date since September 10th, 2017. The Space Weather Prediction Center reports that the effects may be: "Temporary degradation or complete loss of high frequency (HF) radio signals on parts of the sunlight portion of the earth".

Explanation: Coronal Holes Located On The Sun

THE SUN - The latest snapshot of the sun by the Space Weather Prediction Center shows a large gaping hole in the sun, called a "Coronal hole". What Is A Coronal Hole? The National Centers for Environmental Information defines coronal holes as, "dark regions in the sun’s atmosphere detected by ultraviolet and X-ray imaging, are the source of high-speed solar wind streams.

The center reported on December 14th that the Earth-directed component would be expected to reach Earth on December 16th and that the effects should last until December 17th.
