While Israel rarely acknowledges strikes in Syria, it has admitted to carrying out hundreds of strikes in the past targeting militias in the region.
DAMASCUS - Syrian state media reported that Israel targeted the Syrian capital of Damascus with airstrikes, citing a military source.
The Syrian state cited the source as saying that "At about 23:45 p.m., 28-5-2023, the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the vicinity of Damascus".
On its Telegram channel, it said "A military source: At about 23:45 in the evening, 28-5-2023, the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the vicinity of Damascus, and our air defense media intercepted the aggression’s missiles and shot down some of them, and the losses were limited to material".
Israel rarely acknowledges strikes in Syria but has admitted to carrying out hundreds of strikes in the past, usually striking Iranian-backed militia groups located in the region or targeting shipments of Iranian weapons and military equipment being transported to militias.
