The IAEA has given a warning of fighting taking place in Russia around the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) which could create a nuclear incident in the region.

RUSSIA - Ukraine continues to advance on Kursk, Russia as Moscow pulls a "relatively small" amount of troops from Ukraine to defend against the incursion within its territory. The IAEA has also released multiple assessments regarding the fire that was reported to be at the base of the base of one of the cooling towers at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

According to the IAEA: “Based on the observations, the team assessed that it was unlikely that the primary source of the fire began at the base of the cooling tower, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said. During the team’s visit to the cooling tower, it determined that the damage was most likely concentrated on the interior of the tower at the water nozzle distribution level”.
