Ukraine's Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant's Reactor 4 Switched From Hot Shutdown To Cold After Water Leak Detected
IAEA: There was no radiological release to the environment.
KYIV - After a water leak was detected in one of the steam generators in the containment of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant's Reactor Unit 4, the reactor unit was switched from hot shutdown to cold shutdown, according to a statement from the IAEA, as well as Ukraine’s state energy company Energoatom.
A statement by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cited the agency’s Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi as saying that the ZNPP will place unit 4 into cold shutdown in order to “determine the precise cause of the water leak that has been detected,” as well as to “conduct maintenance to repair the affected steam generator”.
The IAEA statement said, “There was no radiological release to the environment”.
