US Resumes Weapon Shipments to Ukraine Amid Escalation By Russia
The Pentagon has released a statement saying that the US will be sending additional weaponry to Ukraine to aid the country in its self-defense until the United States can secure a lasting peace.
WASHINGTON — On July 7, 2025, President Donald Trump announced the resumption of weapon shipments to Ukraine during a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reversing a pause enacted on July 1 due to U.S. stockpile concerns
Shortly after, the U.S. Department of Defense released a statement saying that the Pentagon will be sending additional weaponry to Ukraine to aid the country in its self-defense until the United States can secure a lasting peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow.
The Department of Defense statement said, "At President Trump's direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine to ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace and ensure the killing stops. Our framework for POTUS to evaluate military shipments across the globe remains in effect and is integral to our America First defense priorities."
Ukrainian defense sources reported over 1,270 drones and 39 missiles launched by Russia in the prior week, driving the decision to prioritize defensive systems like Patriot missiles.
This move bolsters Ukraine’s air defenses against escalating Russian attacks, though it raises questions about U.S. military readiness and potential Russian retaliation.
