Yemeni Forces Interdict Weapons Bound for Houthis Amid USS Nimitz Arrival in Bahrain

MIDDLE EAST — On August 6, Yemeni security forces conducted an inspection at the Port of Aden and seized a shipment that included drones, jet propulsion systems, wireless devices, and advanced control components. The cargo had been rerouted from its original destination of Al Hodeidah.

The operation involved counter-terrorism, customs, and police units in coordination with the Public Prosecutor and port authorities. On August 10, the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group, consisting of USS Nimitz, Carrier Air Wing 17, USS Gridley, and USS Lenah Sutcliffe Higbee, arrived in Manama, Bahrain, for a port visit.

The seizure at Aden occurred after the cargo's rerouting. Houthis control al Hodeidah. The Nimitz's arrival was the first carrier visit to Bahrain since 2020. U.S. Central Command's area includes the Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, Gulf of Oman, and parts of the Indian Ocean, spanning approximately 2.5 million square miles of water.
