Drone Sightings Escalate Across Danish Airports
Police have intiated investigations, with national authorities coordinating responses.
EUROPE — On September 24, unidentified drones prompted closures at multiple Danish airports, including Aalborg, Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup. Authorities reported observations in these vicinities, affecting several flights and leading to diversions.
This followed similar disruptions at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark and Oslo Airport in Norway on September 22. North Jutland Police initiated investigations into the Aalborg event, with national authorities coordinating responses.
The Aalborg closure involved multiple drones near the airport. Police responded promptly to the scene. Several flights from carriers like SAS and Norwegian were suspended. Operations remained halted pending clearance, with a press conference held to discuss the matter. Royal Danish Air Force helicopters monitored the airspace.
Additional sightings occurred in southern Denmark at Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup airports. These incidents mirrored the pattern seen at Aalborg. Authorities deployed resources to assess and secure the areas. No immediate threats to safety were reported beyond the airspace restrictions.
These occurrences resembled earlier events at Copenhagen, where drones caused a nearly four-hour shutdown on September 22. Thousands of passengers faced delays there, with multiple flights diverted.
Oslo experienced a brief closure the same night due to comparable activity. As Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated regarding Copenhagen, “What we saw last night is the most serious attack on Danish infrastructure so far.”
