BAGHDAD — The Information Office of the President of the Council of Ministers issued a statement on July 24 affirming that claims contained in a report published the previous day are utterly devoid of truth and have no connection whatsoever to reality.

The claims at issue held that Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi had delivered a U.S. cease-fire proposal to Iranian officials during his official visit to Tehran. No named official on either the Iraqi or U.S. side has publicly affirmed that such a proposal was prepared or conveyed.

Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi returned to Baghdad on July 24 after concluding an official visit to Tehran on July 23. The visit included meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and head of the judiciary Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i.

Four agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed covering international road transport of goods, a railway link from Kermanshah-Khosravi-Khanaqin to Baghdad, twinning between the Baghdad Municipality and Tehran Municipality, and government administration and human resources training.
