WASHINGTON - The Pentagon says repairs on the Gazan pier are ongoing after it was damaged by rough seas, adding that the previously estimated cost of the overall cost for the U.S. Central Command's Joint Logistics, Over-the-Shore capability has been reduced by around $90 million, a nearly 1/3 reduction due to lower costs for contracted trucks, drivers, and commercial vessels.

During a press briefing, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters that the costs were also reduced as a berthing vessel for soldiers and sailors was contributed by the United Kingdom.

The total estimated cost for the Gazan pier now stands at $230 million as opposed to the $320 million originally estimated, which Singh stated includes the costs for repairing the pier after recently being damaged, which caused the pier to become detached from the Gazan shoreline.

“These are estimates and initial assessments," Singh said, adding, "and the cost could fluctuate depending on the length of the mission and future cost — an example of that being additional repairs”.
