U.S. Space Force Awards $4.16 Billion OTA Agreement to SpaceX for SB-AMTI Program
The Space-Based Airborne Moving Target Indicator program delivers the U.S. military’s first operational space-based capability to detect, track, and support targeting of airborne threats globally.
UNITED STATES — The acting U.S. Space Force Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Space Based Sensing and Targeting awarded a $4.16 billion competitive Other Transaction Authority agreement to SpaceX on May 29 for the Space-Based Airborne Moving Target Indicator program.
The award establishes initial space-based sensing capability designed to track and target airborne threats globally and delivers a resilient layer that complements traditional airborne platforms facing increasingly sophisticated anti-access and area-denial systems.
SB-AMTI integrates advanced space-based sensors, secure rapid communication links, and resilient ground processing as a system-of-systems architecture to provide the Joint Force with sustained battle-space awareness over contested airspace.
The program answers the 2026 National Defense Strategy mandate to ensure second-to-none operational flexibility and all-domain moving target indication against all targets, fortifying a layered capability by leveraging the space vantage point for continuous oversight where traditional sensors cannot reach.
